FAQ

General

How does vesikalik.com.tr work?
Choose the size for your document type, then upload a photo or take one with your browser camera. Our AI checks biometric rules (sharpness, pose, expression, lighting, background); if the photo passes, it removes the background and produces a print-ready ID photo in your selected aspect ratio. You can download the digital file or order a 10×15 print sheet for delivery — no account required.
How do I print the resulting PNG?
The PNG keeps the aspect ratio of your chosen document (e.g. 50×60 mm ≈ 600×720 px, 35×45 mm ≈ 560×720 px, US square visa 720×720; long side ~720 px / ~300 DPI). Two options: after payment download the clean digital file and print at a photo shop or home printer, or order an auto-laid-out 10×15 print sheet for delivery from the site.
For which countries can I generate valid photos?
The wizard offers about twenty document and country formats: Turkish ID, passport, driving licence, Schengen, US, UK, Canada, Australia, China, Russia, private security, firearms licence and ICAO 35×45 mm, among others. The AI checks ICAO 9303 plus country-specific rules (size, background, head height) and, when suitable, produces a print-ready ID photo in your chosen size. For unlisted documents use the generic 35×45 mm (international) or 50×60 mm (TR) format. Final acceptance rests with the authority.
How long is a passport photo valid?
The photo itself is only valid for 6 months at the time of application — a passport application with a photo older than 6 months is usually not accepted. Once printed inside the passport it stays valid for the passport's lifetime; however if your appearance changes significantly (weight, hair/beard, surgery) you must renew the passport with a new photo. For infants, frequent renewal is expected.
How long is an ID photo valid?
The photo must have been taken within the last 6 months at the time of application; once printed on the card it stays valid for the ID card's 10-year lifetime. If your face changes noticeably (weight, hair/beard, cosmetic or medical procedure) you may need to renew the ID with a new photo. Since analysis is free, you can compare compliance with your current ID before ordering.
When will my printed photos arrive?
Once your payment is confirmed, your sheet is printed and dispatched by the method you chose: cargo delivery covers all of Turkey, while in served regions orders paid before the announced cut-off time aim for next-day courier delivery. Tracking information is sent by email, and you can follow the order status on the orders page of your account. If you are in a hurry, the digital file can be downloaded instantly.
Can I order without creating an account?
Yes — no account is required for analysis, preview or ordering. As a guest you only enter your email address at checkout; the order is attached to an automatically created account under that address, and a secure login link sent to your inbox lets you reach your file and order history any time, no password needed.
Can I re-download my digital file later?
Yes. The clean file you purchased is tied to your account and can be re-downloaded from your orders page at any time — even if you change phones or delete the file, it is not lost. The same applies to guest orders: use the login link sent to the email you gave at checkout to access your account and file.
Will authorities accept an ID photo taken at home?
Yes — authorities do not care where the photo was taken, only whether it meets biometric standards: correct size, plain light background, neutral expression, sufficient resolution and proper head ratio. A frame taken at home with a phone that satisfies these rules is indistinguishable from a studio shot; our AI checks exactly these rules one by one and cleans the background to studio quality. The final acceptance decision always rests with the authority, so take the analysis warnings seriously.

Requirements

What photo formats are supported?
You can upload JPG or PNG, or capture with your browser camera. Photos with a short side of at least 480 pixels are accepted; 720 pixels or more give sharper results. For low resolution or slight head tilt the system may try an automatic fix — just review the preview.
How should I take my photo?
Face the camera, keep a neutral expression, eyes open, and do not smile. Use even natural light and avoid harsh side shadows. A plain (preferably light) background is enough — the model cleans complex backdrops. A headscarf is fine if the whole face is visible; do not wear dark sunglasses.
Should I remove glasses for the photo?
For Turkish ID cards, passports and most visa applications glasses should be removed; lens glare, tinted lenses or thick frames can cause rejection. Our analysis flags glare, dark lenses and thick frames as warnings. Prescription glasses without glare may be allowed for driving licences in some cases, but shooting without glasses is safest.
What should I pay attention to when taking the photo?
Stand in even natural light in front of a plain light background (white or light grey) and avoid harsh side shadows. Face the camera with a neutral expression, eyes open and no smile; keep your head upright and make sure hair does not cover the face or eyebrows. Wear plain clothing and avoid glare on glasses — our analysis measures each of these criteria automatically and warns you before you commit.
What is a biometric photo and what are its sizes?
A biometric photo is an official ID photo that presents facial features (eye distance, chin-to-forehead ratio, head height) according to international ICAO 9303 rules. In Türkiye 50×60 mm is standard for ID cards, passports and driving licences; 35×45 mm is the common international size for visas and passports (the US visa is 51×51 mm square). Pick the document in our wizard and the correct size, background and head-height rules are applied automatically.
Can I have a beard or mustache in a biometric photo?
Beards, mustaches and sideburns are fine as long as they don't make your face unrecognizable and reflect your everyday look; the jawline, mouth and cheeks must remain clearly visible. If you change your look dramatically during the document's validity, you may need to renew it with a new photo. Our analysis automatically measures facial recognizability and symmetry — you just pick the frame that passes.
What are the visa photo sizes and requirements?
The most common international visa photo is 35×45 mm biometric; US visas use a 51×51 mm (2×2 in) square. The background must be white or a very light plain colour, the photo taken within the last 6 months, and the head should fill about 70-80% of the frame. Choose the target country in the wizard — the system applies the right pixel, DPI and file-size rules automatically.
Can I wear a headscarf in a visa photo?
A headscarf may be worn for religious reasons; however the hairline, eyebrows, ears/cheeks and chin must be fully visible, and no fabric or hair may cross the face boundary. Choose a non-transparent, plain-colour scarf and avoid decorative accessories or loose strands. Our analysis automatically checks that the chin-to-forehead face frame is visible in the correct proportion.
Can I smile in a visa photo?
No — a neutral expression is required for visa, passport and official ID photos; smiling, showing teeth, an open mouth or raised eyebrows are grounds for rejection. Keep your lips gently closed in a natural pose and your eyes open and normally wide. Our analysis flags smiling, open-mouth and squinting cases as warnings automatically.
What are the passport photo size and requirements?
The standard Republic of Türkiye passport photo is 50×60 mm biometric; the background must be white or a very light plain colour, glasses must not glare, and eyes must be open and looking straight at the camera. It also follows international ICAO 9303 rules: the head fills about 70-80% of the frame, neutral expression, and the photo must have been taken in the last 6 months. Pick the "TR Passport" preset in the wizard — the system applies all these rules automatically.
What are the Turkish ID photo size and requirements?
The standard size for the Turkish ID card is 50×60 mm biometric; the background must be white or very light grey, expression neutral, eyes open and looking straight at the camera, no glare on glasses. The civil registry usually accepts a single biometric photo; if you are also getting a driving licence or passport in the same period, a 10×15 print sheet is a practical option. Just pick the "TR ID" preset in the wizard.
What are the driving licence photo size and requirements?
The driving licence photo in Türkiye is 50×60 mm biometric; the background must be white or light grey, the expression neutral, and any prescription glasses must have no glare. Traffic registration sometimes accepts glare-free prescription glasses, but shooting without glasses is safest. Selecting the "TR Driving Licence" preset in the wizard applies size, DPI and background rules automatically.
What is a standard ID (vesikalık) photo?
The standard vesikalık photo size is 4.5×6 cm and is used for job applications, school enrolment, notary documents, exam registration and similar procedures; a white background, a clear face and a neutral expression are enough. For official biometric applications (ID, passport, driving licence) the 50×60 mm biometric size is required — most people like to keep both formats on hand. Both presets live in the wizard, and after payment several copies can be tiled onto the 10×15 print sheet.
What are the China visa photo requirements?
The China visa photo is 33×48 mm biometric on a white background; the online COVA system requires 354×472-420×560 pixels JPEG and a 40-120 KB file. Ears, eyebrows and hairline must be visible, expression neutral, no glasses, taken within the last 6 months. Choose the "China visa" preset in the wizard — the system applies the size and file limits automatically and outputs a ready-to-upload JPEG.
What are the Russia visa photo requirements?
The Russia visa photo is 35×45 mm biometric on a white or very light grey matte background. Head height must be 32-36 mm with the face centered, expression neutral; dark sunglasses and lens glare are not accepted. Selecting the "Russia visa" preset in the wizard sets head height, background and DPI automatically — you can also order it as a 10×15 print sheet.
What are the Canada visa photo requirements?
For Canada tourist/work/study visas (IRCC TRV) the photo is 35×45 mm biometric on a white or very light grey background; head height must be 31-36 mm. Choosing Canada Visa in the wizard produces that size. Note: Canadian passport and permanent residence (PR) applications require a different 50×70 mm photo with studio name, date and name on the back of the print — do not confuse with the visa size. Paper applications usually need 2 identical prints; you can order a 10×15 sheet if you prefer.
What photo is required for a firearms or private security licence?
A 50×60 mm biometric photo on a white background is required for firearms carry permits and private security ID cards; a neutral expression and no glasses are mandatory. Dark plain clothing is typically recommended for firearms applications and light for security IDs — uniforms, camouflage and logos are not accepted. Pick the "TR ID/Permit" format in the wizard and order a 10×15 print sheet if you want several copies from the same frame.
What are the Schengen visa photo requirements?
The Schengen visa photo must be 35×45 mm ICAO-compliant biometric; plain white or light grey background, head height about 32-36 mm (70-80% of the frame) and taken within the last 6 months. Neutral expression is required; smiling, lens glare and shadows are grounds for rejection, and glasses are discouraged. Pick the "Schengen" preset in the wizard — size, DPI and head-height rules apply automatically and you get a single consulate-ready JPEG.
What are the US visa photo requirements?
The US visa photo must be a 51×51 mm (2×2 in) square on a plain white or off-white background; the DS-160 online application requires a square JPEG between 600×600 and 1200×1200 pixels and under 240 KB. Head height must fill 50-69% of the frame, a neutral expression is mandatory, and the photo must have been taken within the last 6 months. Pick the "US visa" preset in the wizard — the square crop and DS-160 file limits are applied automatically.
What are the UK visa photo requirements?
The UK visa application is now largely digital: a JPEG of at least 600×750 pixels on a plain light grey or cream background is required. When a physical print is needed, the size is 35×45 mm biometric; head height 29-34 mm, neutral expression, no shadows or lens glare. Pick the "UK" preset in the wizard — you can produce a JPEG for upload and a 10×15 print sheet together.
What are the Australia visa photo requirements?
The Australia visa photo is 35×45 mm biometric on a plain light grey or white background. The ImmiAccount online application requires a high-resolution JPEG (typically around 900×1200 pixels); the head should fill 60-70% of the frame and the photo be taken within the last 6 months. Pick the "Australia" preset in the wizard — an ImmiAccount-compatible JPEG is generated automatically.
How do I take a baby passport photo at home?
Lay the baby on their back on a white sheet or seat them in a car seat in front of a white background; hold the phone directly overhead, parallel to the face and about 30-50 cm away. Shoot in daylight without harsh side shadows; keep hands, toys and pacifiers out of the frame. The AI cleans the background and crops correctly — just take several frames and upload the sharpest one with open eyes.
Can a baby's eyes be closed in a passport photo?
For newborns (roughly 0-6 months) most countries tolerate slightly closed eyes or a slightly open mouth; however Turkey's civil registry and Schengen in practice want open eyes. The safest approach is to take several photos when the baby is awake and calm and run them through the free analysis — the tool tells you exactly which frame passes.
How many photos are needed for a Turkish ID application?
One 50×60 mm biometric photo is enough for a Turkish ID card application. If you also need photos for another document (driving licence, passport, student ID) in the same period, a 10×15 print sheet is practical — we automatically tile several copies of the same biometric frame onto one sheet and deliver by cargo or courier. That way you also keep spare prints on hand.
Can I wear glasses in a driving licence photo?
In Turkish driving licence photos glare-free prescription glasses are technically allowed; however lens glare, tinted/dark lenses or thick frames covering the eye area are rejection reasons. For ID cards and passports glasses must be removed entirely. For the safest result we recommend shooting without glasses for every official document — our analysis measures eye visibility and lens glare automatically.
What colour clothing should I wear for a biometric photo?
Since the background is white or very light grey, avoid white and cream tops — the collar blends into the background and the face edges disappear. Dark and mid tones (navy, charcoal, burgundy, dark green) increase contrast and define facial features. Uniforms, camouflage, religious/military insignia and large logos are rejected for most official documents; a plain single-colour tee, shirt or sweater is the safest choice.
Do I need a paper photo or a digital file for visa applications?
It depends on the country: the US (DS-160), UK and Australia primarily want a digital JPEG; Schengen, China and Russia application centres usually also require physical prints. The safest approach is to download the single JPEG for upload and order a 10×15 print sheet with multiple copies for the physical requirement — our tool produces both from the same biometric frame. That way you have the file and the prints ready on appointment day.
What size photo do schools require for student ID cards?
School enrolments and student ID cards traditionally use the 4.5×6 cm vesikalık; the e-Okul digital upload requires a 394×512 pixel JPEG. Universities usually ask for both a 4.5×6 print and a JPEG file. Pick the "School/Student" preset in the wizard and order a 10×15 print sheet — the JPEG for e-Okul and several prints for enrolment are ready at the same time.
Are makeup, earrings and jewellery allowed in a biometric photo?
Natural makeup that reflects your everyday appearance is fine; heavy contouring, false lashes and coloured contact lenses that visibly alter facial features can cause rejection. Small earrings and a thin necklace are generally not a problem, but avoid large hoops crossing the face outline, shiny/reflective jewellery and piercings that partially cover the face. The rule is simple: your facial features must be clearly visible and make you recognisable as you look today — our analysis checks face visibility automatically.
Do ears have to be visible in a biometric photo?
It depends on the country: Turkey (ID, passport, driving licence), Schengen, the US and the UK do not require visible ears — hair may cover them as long as the face outline from forehead to chin is clear. The China visa, however, explicitly requires ears and eyebrows to be visible, so tuck your hair behind the ears before applying. When you pick the target document in the wizard, the relevant country rules are checked automatically; if unsure, a frame with visible ears is the safe choice for every country.
What are the Green Card (DV Lottery) photo requirements?
The Green Card lottery (DV Lottery) requires a perfectly square JPEG of 600×600 pixels under 240 KB; the background must be white or off-white, expression neutral, no glasses, and the photo taken within the last 6 months. Head height must fill 50-69% of the frame with the eye line within a set range — the rules are identical to the US visa photo. Just pick the "US visa" preset in the wizard: the system applies the square crop, pixel and file-size limits automatically and produces an upload-ready JPEG. If you enter with a spouse and children, remember that each family member needs their own photo.

Technical

Where does the AI run?
All face analysis, background removal and ID-photo generation run on our own local AI server; your photo is never sent to a third-party cloud. MediaPipe face landmarks, the BiRefNet background model and optional super-resolution enhancement all run in the same secure environment.
Are my photos stored?
Your photo is not sent to third parties; processing stays on our servers. The browser only receives a watermarked preview. The clean ID photo is kept on a private disk and can be downloaded from your account after payment. Access is limited to you and authorised admins; anonymous technical metrics (duration, model) are logged. See the Privacy Policy for details; you may request deletion under applicable data-protection law.
Are the analysis results reliable?
The system runs biometric checks with Google MediaPipe FaceLandmarker (478-point face mesh), a 3D head-pose matrix and the BiRefNet background model; when needed it also auto-rotates, upscales and cleans the background on blurry, tilted or shadowed shots. Results are advisory — final acceptance is up to the consulate, civil registry or the relevant authority. Analysis is free, so try different poses and frames before you submit.
Is retouching or Photoshop allowed on a biometric photo?
For a biometric ID photo only technical improvements are applied: background cleanup, cropping, gentle auto colour/brightness balance and, when needed, super-resolution or rotation. Retouches that change facial features (slimming the nose, shortening the chin, removing natural moles or scars, skin filters) are never applied — they can get the photo rejected. Our pipeline is designed for biometric compliance, not beautification.
What is the 50x60 mm photo in pixels?
For 50×60 mm our output file has the long side at ~720 px, giving roughly 600×720 pixels at ~300 DPI (the classic 300 DPI calculation is ~591×709 for reference; same physical size, slightly different math). On the 10×15 print sheet this frame is tiled with several copies alongside it; you can also take the digital file to a photo shop for a traditional print. Our tool outputs the ~300 DPI PNG and, optionally, prepares the 10×15 sheet.
What is the 35x45 mm photo in pixels?
For 35×45 mm our output file has the long side at ~720 px, giving roughly 560×720 pixels at ~300 DPI; the classic 300 DPI calculation is ~413×531 for reference. This resolution is enough for Schengen, Canada, Russia, UK and Australia visa systems (US is square and has its own preset) and comfortably clears the 600×750-pixel minimum that many online uploads require. The wizard applies the correct size and background automatically.
What is the watermark on the preview and how do I remove it?
The watermark is a semi-transparent mark that prevents the free preview from being used in official applications; it lets you judge the result quality safely before paying. The clean, watermark-free file is already prepared on our server and becomes downloadable from your account the moment payment is confirmed — the photo is not reprocessed, you receive exactly the frame you approved in the preview. Trying to erase the watermark manually damages the file and gets applications rejected.
My photo was marked "not suitable" — what should I do?
No panic — the analysis shows exactly which criterion failed: blur, head tilt, smiling, closed eyes, glasses glare, poor lighting or a busy background. Fix the flagged issue (brighter room, face the camera, neutral expression), take a new frame and upload again; since the analysis is free you can try as many times as you like. For minor issues the system already attempts automatic fixes (rotation, sharpening) — the best results come from choosing among several different frames.
Do I need to whiten the background myself?
No — background removal is fully automatic. Our BiRefNet-based model separates the person precisely, individual hairs included, and applies the document-compliant white/light background itself; the colour of your wall or objects behind you are not a problem. That said, shooting in front of a reasonably plain backdrop makes the model's job easier and gives cleaner hair edges. You can verify the result in the watermarked preview before paying.
Is a smartphone camera good enough for a biometric photo?
More than enough — any smartphone from recent years shoots far above the required resolution (short side at least 480, ideally 720+ pixels). What matters is not the camera but the shooting conditions: use the rear camera if possible, avoid digital zoom, hold the phone upright at eye level and ask someone to shoot from 1-1.5 metres away. Selfies are accepted too, but since arm length causes perspective distortion, a frame taken with the rear camera usually scores better.
Can I use the same photo for multiple documents?
Yes — a single well-taken frame can serve as the source for ID card, passport, driving licence and most visas. However, since each document has its own size, crop and head ratio, one file cannot be submitted everywhere: for each document simply pick the relevant preset in the wizard and upload the same photo again; the system regenerates the crop and background for that document. For people renewing ID + passport + driving licence at the same time, the 10×15 print sheet is a practical solution.

Billing

Can I use it for free?
Yes. Biometric compliance analysis and the watermarked preview are free (fair use and a per-minute request limit apply). Downloading the clean digital file and ordering a 10×15 print sheet are paid; prices in the order wizard include VAT. No account is required — you can complete the order as a guest.
How much do the digital photo and print sheets cost?
The biometric compliance analysis and the watermarked preview are completely free. The clean digital file and the 10×15 print sheet are paid; current prices are shown VAT-inclusive in the order wizard, and the price at the time of ordering applies. Since several copies of the same frame are tiled onto one sheet automatically, printing is usually cheaper than a studio.
Which payment methods can I use?
You can pay by credit card (via the secure iyzico checkout page) or by bank transfer (havale/EFT); your card details are never seen or stored by us. If you choose bank transfer, simply add your order number to the payment description. You can switch the payment method later from your order page; orders not paid within the stated period are cancelled automatically.
Do I have a right of withdrawal or refund?
Printed photos are custom-made from your own picture and the digital file is delivered instantly once payment is confirmed, so under Turkish distance-selling law (Art. 15) both are exempt from the right of withdrawal; you are clearly informed of this during checkout. For damaged or misprinted products you are of course entitled to a free reprint or a refund. That is why we recommend checking the result with the free analysis and watermarked preview before paying.
I paid by bank transfer — when is my order processed?
Bank transfers are confirmed once the payment reaches our account and is verified; upon confirmation your digital file is unlocked, print orders enter production and you are notified by email. Writing your order number in the transfer description speeds up matching. Card payments are confirmed instantly — if you prefer not to wait, you can switch to card payment from your order page.
How much is shipping and is free shipping available?
The shipping fee and, if applicable, the free-shipping threshold are shown automatically in the order summary; print orders above the threshold ship for free. In served regions the next-day courier option is priced per zone. The digital file has no delivery cost — it is available for download as soon as payment is confirmed.
